Transportation

A simple guide for newcomers on buses, trains, transit apps, fares, and getting around safely.

Public Transit

Most cities in Ontario have buses, trains, or other public transit. The cost and schedule can be different in each city. Before you travel, check the route, fare, and how long the trip will take.

Use a maps app or your local transit website. Many cities use cards, tickets, or phone payments. Ask a settlement worker or library staff if you are not sure how to pay.

If you are travelling with children, going to school, or going to work, try the route once before the important day.

Simple Transit Tips

Save important places on your phone, like home, school, work, clinics, and the nearest grocery store. Plan to arrive early, especially in winter or during rush hour.

If you miss a bus or train, stay calm and check the next route. Keep your phone charged when travelling in a new area.

For emergencies, call 911. For directions, ask staff at stations, libraries, schools, or settlement agencies.
